The Seven Universal Laws or Sacred Secrets of Manifestation

According to the Hermetic tradition, there are seven Universal Laws or Principles that govern our Universe and everything in it. Everything in the Universe exists in harmony because of these principles.  Ancient esoteric and occult teachings have been a strong influence of philosophies for centuries.  The teachings of the seven Spiritual Laws of the Universe have been a common thread.  One will experience transformation in every area of their lives once they understand, apply and align themselves with these Universal Laws.  Doreen Virtue’s book, Divine Magic – The Seven Sacred Secrets of Manifestation – is a New Interpretation of the Classic Hermetic Manual The Kyballion.

The first of these sacred laws is the Law of Mentalism. This Law tells us that “The All is Mind – The Universe is Mental”. This means that the underlying reality of the Universe is Mind and the Universe is Mental and ‘existing in the Mind of The All’.  If the Universe is Mental in nature, then mental transmutation must be the art of changing the conditions of the Universe along with matter, force and mind. Mental transmutation is the ‘magic’ that the ancients referred to in their mystical writings. If everything is Mental, then transmutation can change material conditions as well as mental conditions.

The second of these sacred laws is the Law of Correspondence. We have all heard the phrase “As above, so below; as below, so above”. This Law describes the harmony, agreement, and correspondence between the planes of manifestation, life and being. Everything comes from the same source, regardless of the plane it exists on. It is subject to the same laws, principles and characteristics as everything else. There are three planes, physical, mental and spiritual. The three great planes are groupings of degrees of life manifestation.

The third of the seven Universal Laws is the Law of Vibration.  ”Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” Motion is manifest in everything. The third Law tells us that the whole universe is. Nothing is at rest, everything moves, vibrates and circles. Science now knows that everything in the Universe is pure energy vibrating at different frequencies. The idea that “like energy attracts like energy”, is the basis of the Law of Attraction. Your thoughts and emotions are a vibration which attracts other things to you at that vibration. Love and gratitude are the highest frequencies or vibrations and hate and fear the lowest frequencies and yet they are at different levels of the same pole. It is important that we control our thinking so we attract good through our thoughts.

The fourth of the seven Universal Laws is the Law of Polarity.  ”Everything is dual, everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same thing, opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree, extremes meet, all truths are but half-truths, all paradoxes may be reconciled.”  This means everything has two sides or poles. Opposites is just varying degrees of the same thing. For instance, heat and cold are identical in nature, distinguishable only by degrees. The same applies to love and hate, east and west, positive and negative, good and bad, as well as light and darkness. By changing our vibration, we can transform our thoughts.

The fifth of the seven Universal Laws is The Law of Rhythm. “Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.” Everything moves in measured motion, a flow and inflow, a pendulum like movement. This movement happens in the physical, mental and spiritual planes. There is always an action and reaction. Rhythm manifests in the creation and destructions of societies and nations and in our mental states. We see it in the rise and fall of empires, in business, and in everything in our lives. There is always an action and reaction, an advance and retreat.

The sixth of the Universal Laws is The Law of Cause and Effect.  ”Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause. Everything happens according to Law; chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law. ”   This principle underlies all scientific thought. Philosophers throughout the ages have agreed about this principle. Every effect you see in your physical world has a specific cause which has its origin in your inner or mental world. Every one of your thoughts, words or actions sets a specific effect in motion which will materialize over time. It is important to understand that there is no such thing as chance. Chance is an expression relating to obscure cases that we cannot perceive or understand. No event creates another event, but is a link in the great orderly chain of events flowing from the creative energy of the All. To create your life the way you want it to be, you need to master your thoughts as everything in your life is a mental creation. When you harness in on your goals, being intentional and using visualization, what you want to create will be manifested in the spiritual world and over time, which you want will be manifested in your life in the physical.

The last of the seven Universal Laws is The Law of Gender. “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.” The masculine and feminine principles are active and present in everything on every plane of life.  Gender is found in humans, as well as plants, minerals and electrons among other things. Everything contains masculine and feminine elements.

The Law of Attraction runs through all of the Universal Laws. It is all about the energy. When we intend and focus on what we want in our lives, to the exclusion of all else, we will attract those things into our lives (remember what we focus on expands).  When we do not decide what we want and allow our mind to meander, not being focused, our mind will attract whatever is going on around us. The process of visioning is helpful in helping us to define what we want in our lives, and being able to create it through our subconscious mind. Hence, affirmations, vision boards, meditation and the like are all helpful in attracting what we want into our lives. The issue is that many people do not choose what they want to focus on. They watch TV, spend time with others who do not understand these principles and then, by osmosis, attract things into their lives that are not what they desire to have in their lives.  It is so important to have desires, goals and focus on what we want in our lives, thus attracting what we want into our lives. Our desires are the message from the internal part of us, our intuition, if you will, to let us know who we are and what we want.

By working with all of these principles, we can truly attract better things into our lives, including health, wealth, relationships and spirituality, to name a few.  Just as we know if we jump off a building we will fall, these laws are real and affect us, whether we realize it or not. By understanding and utilizing them, we can create better lives. Doreen Virtue has done a wonderful job of presenting these principles in her book,  Divine Magic – The Seven Sacred Secrets of Manifestation – is a New Interpretation of the Classic Hermetic Manual The Kyballion.
